Privacy Policy

Transparent, secure, and entirely serverless. Your text snippets never leave your device.

Last updated: May 21, 2026

Zero Data Collection

We do not transmit, sync, store, or sell any of your typing history or shortcuts.

100% Local Storage

Everything is saved directly inside your browser storage using standard offline APIs.

1. Our Commitment to Your Privacy

At QuickText Expander, we believe that text expansion should be fast, elegant, and completely secure. Because your snippets can contain sensitive work communications, passwords, templates, or private notes, we built the extension on a serverless architecture. We do not have accounts, databases, or trackers. Your privacy is protected not just by a policy, but by our architecture.

2. No Server Transmission

When you type a shortcut (like /ty) and it expands to a larger block of text, this replacement is calculated instantly on your local computer by the extension script. No keystrokes, snippets, page URLs, or user profiles are ever sent over the network. The extension has no remote API server to connect to.

3. Storage and Syncing

Your shortcuts and settings database are kept in standard browser memory using the secure chrome.storage.local API.

  • Local Storage: Snippets remain purely inside your local browser profile. If you uninstall the extension, this data is automatically removed by Chrome.
  • Import/Export: You can choose to manually back up your snippets to a JSON file via the options dashboard. The export process happens locally inside your browser; no files are sent to us.

4. Extension Permissions Explained

To work seamlessly on the web, Google Chrome requires extensions to request specific system privileges. Here is precisely how we use them:

storage Essential

Required to store and retrieve your custom snippets and trigger settings on your local machine.

activeTab / tabs Essential

Allows the extension to read the text field you are currently typing in, in order to expand the shortcut instantly.

contextMenus Optional

Allows you to right-click on any webpage and select a snippet from a menu to quickly insert it into a text box.

5. Web Store Compliant and Ad-Free

QuickText Expander is completely open to review and fully complies with the Chrome Web Store Single Purpose Policy and User Data Privacy Guidelines. We do not insert advertisements, track your searches, monetize your clicks, or sell any analytics to third parties.

6. Changes to this Policy

If we update the extension to add user-requested features that change how data is handled (for example, introducing optional cloud backups), we will update this Privacy Policy on this page and notify users through the extension update notes. Even with future updates, our core philosophy remains to keep your typing private.

7. Contact Support
